Antonio

PhD in Industrial Engineering since 2002 and associate professor since February 2003 at the University of Seville. I have over twenty-three years of professional experience in private enterprise, the last ten in MTU Ibérica (a subsidiary of the Rolls-Royce Group), an engine manufacturer. I have worked as an asset management engineer, focused on fleet maintenance. I highlight the management and maintenance activities of diesel engines of coastal patrol boats owned by the Spanish State, engines of patrol boats of the Customs Surveillance Service, Guardia Civil, and Maritime Rescue. During this time, I also provided technical support to private clients, including large ferries in the Strait of Gibraltar and the islands, and the Spanish Army. In addition to managing interventions, my work is identified with the resolution of technical deficiencies not solved in the factory and the adaptation of equipment to new technologies. The use of data for managing and processing information from the operation of the asset or failure events was one of the activities developed in the professional field. Another was the development of models for optimising fleet maintenance activities under my responsibility. Since 2019, I have focused my activity on university teaching and research, trying to find solutions to the unsolved problems of professional activity. I analyse and quantify data from a more theoretical approach, classifying and evaluating it. I use the data as inputs for the tools I have developed with the vision of being able to be applied by professionals. The tools contain complex mathematical development based on semi-Markovian models but allow for straightforward practical application. They have been designed using artificial intelligence to become tools for everyday use due to the power of their scope in decision-making, the ease of use, and the low consumption of professional time resources. This has allowed me to be invited to conferences as a keynote speaker and to publish the models and their applications in indexed journals. On the other hand, I have participated in several research projects with companies, where my double vision as a professional and researcher has been highly valued. For the last two years, I have participated as a co-IP in a State Plan project focused on digital twins for asset management decision-making. This project uses AI techniques to design and use data and analytical models included in digital twins, which provide great utility for companies and professionals. This new project is a further step in my career as a researcher, continuing with the creation of Artificial Intelligence tools. Since November, I have led the Digital Asset Digitization and Maintenance (DMAD) Project Group at ESReDA.
